Overview
SmokeStoppers has been a leading developer
of tobacco control and smoking cessation programs since
1977, when it was founded by a team of University of Michigan-trained
psychologists.
Over the
years, SmokeStoppers programs have become an integral
part of the wellness strategies for numerous hospitals
and medical centers, for managed care organizations such
as Independence Blue Cross, Trinity Health Plans/Care
Choices HMO and Keystone Mercy Health Plan, for corporations
such as UAW-Ford, QVC, Pfizer and FleetBoston, and for
national wellness providers such as Johnson & Johnson
Health Care Systems and MediFit.
SmokeStoppers program materials have been
selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) for inclusion in The Combined Health Information
Database at the National Center for Disease Prevention
and Health Promotion. All SmokeStoppers programs adhere
to the U.S. Department of Health's Clinical Practice
Guidelines for Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence
and follow a carefully structured, One-Day-at-a-Timesm
treatment format that dispenses program information
in daily increments — the ideal way to “unlearn”
complex behaviors such as smoking.
